Caipirinha

Continuing the ‘If life gives you limes..’ theme:

Discovered this little gem on my first trip to Brazil where a dear friend made it for us in his kitchen. I then brought back a couple of bottles of cachaça, because ever since I had it in Brazil I can taste it when in Europe they try to sneak in regular rum or vodka instead (which is not a Caipirinha but a Caipirissima or a Caipiroska), which doesn’t taste nearly as good in my humble opinion.

Ingredients

Cachaça
1 Lime
3 tsp fine White Sugar
Roughly Crushed Icecubes

Large pestle & mortar

Cut the limes in wedges and crush with pestle and mortar together with the sugar to create a syrup.

Place crushed ice into an old-fashioned glass (the stumpy straight edged tumblers), pour out the lime sugar mixture into the glass, let that be 1 part, and then add 2 parts cachaça.
