Back to Basics

A (Temporary) Uniform

Now, assuming your wardrobe needs some serious work and is still far from being the happy sparkly treasure chest you are hoping for, you’re going to need a basic uniform.

What’s a Uniform?

It’s best if this is a simple outfit that you feel very comfortable in, that feels like you, and that is neither entirely casual nor entirely formal.
For me this was a high-waisted pair of deep black jeans and a few good quality black tops. I wore this as a basic uniform for a few years as I worked on building my wardrobe, and would make it interesting by rotating a handful of colourful silk scarves.
Your uniform might be different. It may be a pair of linen trousers and a light floaty knit or it may be a simple jersey dress. It all depends on your personal style as well as the climate you live in and the dresscode your lifestyle might require.

Make sure though, whatever your uniform is, that it is of good quality as it will be on high rotation for the coming time and you don’t want it to become sloppy from washing and wearing.

But why

You need to change your mindset when it comes to your wardrobe. This stage is temporary, but since this is a long process you also want to remove the daily struggle and waste of time of having to make something out of these things that you don’t really love. It’s also great to have this as a starting point to build out from. So embrace the minimalism for the time being and tell yourself that you are making space for the things you really want, by letting go of the things you don’t love.
